Vintners Livery Hall
One of the City’s original twelve halls, it is steeped in wine related history dating back to 1300’s. The Hall boasts the oldest continuously occupied room in the City, alongside the most contemporary and elegant of tasting rooms – the Swan Room.
The Vintners of London have possessed a Hall situated between Upper Thames Street and the River Thames since the 15th century, and it is probable that for many years before that time they had occupied the same site and made use of a building there as their Common Hall. The piece of land on which Vintners' Hall stands was bequeathed to the Vintners' Company in the will of Guy Shuldham, citizen and Vintner of London, dated 7 November 1446. The Hall itself was burnt down in the Great Fire of London. Rebuilding began almost immediately and the Court held its first meeting in the new building in 1671. In 1822 Upper Thames Street was widened. The Hall lost some of its rooms, and was given a new facade and entrance gates. The present facade and entrance date from 1910.
